A Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessment determines the level of bushfire exposure a building will face. It classifies the risk from BAL-LOW through to BAL-FZ (Flame Zone) based on vegetation type, slope, and distance from bushfire-prone vegetation, following Australian Standard AS 3959.
You need a BAL assessment if your property is located within a designated bushfire-prone area under your local planning scheme. In WA, properties within bushfire-prone areas require a BAL Assessment prior to building, development or planning permit approvals.
